Your mind is made up. You have decided to become a stay-at-home mom.
Congratulations, this is about to become the most rewarding and fulfilling
role you can take on. The downside of choosing to centre your life around
your children is that it’s easy to lose yourself in the process. You were cool
before the munchkins came around and, you can continue to be cool after!
Here are a few hobbies you can pick up while on your stay-at-home mom journey.
Our awareness of healthy living increases once children enter our lives.
We’re more conscious of what they should and shouldn’t be eating.
Chopping tomatoes you grew organically with love, blood, sweat and
tears can be incredibly satisfying. If you live in a townhouse or apartment
with a tiny or no garden, consider growing herbs for everyday cooking!
There is nothing more gratifying than finishing puzzles. Puzzles are an
excellent way to improve your memory and problem-solving skills.
The wonderful thing is you can also do them with your kids, depending
on their age! This can be a great bonding exercise.
You’ll be feeding a lot of little monsters, your partner, extended family, friends so,
why not brush up on your baking skills? From sweet treats, healthy alternatives
to baked food – there’s a lot you can do with an oven.
- DIY projects
Home renovation projects can be another great hobby for stay-at-home moms.
Grab that power drill and get ready for a fun at-home DIY project or two.
Maybe you have been meaning to repaint that wall or wanting to make some
custom furniture, now is the perfect time to build on a new hobby.
- Learn a New Language
South Africa has ELEVEN official languages so, why not learn one or two of them?
If you’re looking to learn an international language, there are dozens of free apps
and podcasts that offer language lessons.
Whether it is phone photography or investing in a camera, capture your sweetest
memories while improving your photography skills. There are also plenty of
YouTube videos and free online photography courses you can take to improve your skills!
- Volunteer at School
The remarkable thing about volunteering at your child’s school is that you
become a part of a community of parents. There’s nothing better than
grabbing a cup of coffee with people that are going through the same trials as you!
- Get Crafty
Arts and Crafts are not just for kids. Celebrating a birthday or special occasion?
Get crafty with the kids’ supplies. This is also another fantastic way to bond with
them and keep them busy and you get to explore a new hobby when they’re not
Let’s face it, once you become a parent you have a lot to say. Document your
special moments, the most difficult periods or the best things about being a
parent through blogs or vlogs. You don’t necessarily have to publish your vlogs
if it’s something you’re not comfortable with but, having those videos is a wonderful
way for you and your kids to look back on the memories made.
Figure out what your favourite physical activity is and become a boss at it!
From joining a running club, YouTube videos, boxing and Pilates there’s a fun
activity out there for you! Pole fitness is also a great way to get your confidence
back so why not find a studio near you?
